On the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro - Part 7

Mama Macha is truly the ideal example of Tanzanian hospitality, to open up her home and her heart to ten total strangers (well nine, excluding Chris) and welcome us as if we had been the longest and dearest friends. Without ever giving it a second thought, she devotes 110 percent of herself, her energies and her abilities to the people around her. She, like the kids at Peace House, just radiate with Christ's compassion, generosity and heartfelt love, and I consider it one of the richest blessings to know her.

On our last day there, Mama Macha's sister-in-law who is deaf and mute communicated to Mama Macha about a dream she had had many years earlier, one in which her mother was with her in the house and telling her daughter, “This house is a place of gold.” The dream had confused the sister-in-law, wondering if her mother (who had passed on) was trying to reveal some secret treasure that was hidden in the walls of the house or something. However, the sister-in-law came to us on the last day and shared about the dream, happily communicating that she had figured out that the gold within the house's walls was more wonderful than money. It was the friends, the loved ones and the joy all shared in that place of happiness, warmth and welcome.

*Picture is the sun setting behind Mount Meru, which we could also see from Mama Macha's house. Those were some of the most spectacular moments, to see such serenity and beauty for such a short period of time until it faded into the night darkness - what a simple taste of the brilliance of God and the wonders He's so selflessly given us to enjoy while here on earth.
