From the airport (a little belated)...

Today we finally left for Tanzania, and I couldn't be more frightened. We are already in Amsterdam, which is a relief because I was a nervous wreck about the flight over the ocean. Thankfully, all went well and we're here in the Netherlands, which has also been an experience in and of itself. As I sit here in the airport, I can't help but notice all the different types of people here that I have never seen outside of history books before. So many languages and dress styles, including a few turbans!
Right now, most of us are working on our Kiswahili, frantically memorizing useful and common terms and phrases (though I still don't know the word for bathroom or toilet, which could potentially present minor issues in the future) because we're taking a quiz shortly after our arrival, and my guess is it will be very useful to communicate on a most basic level (greetings, introducing yourself, admitting you only speak a little Kiswahili, etc) :). I guess no movies on the next flight; to relax, I actually watched four movies which – for a girl who doesn't have a TV at school or actually stay awake for most movies – was very exciting! Plus, if I study for a lot of the flight, I'll finally know what it feels like to pull an all-nighter as I will be studying while going on 30 hours without sleep... eek! Even as a senior, I have yet to succumb entirely to my nature of procrastination to the point of not sleeping for the sake of a paper or project at Luther (gold star). ;) I think the possibility of senioritis may or may not have me whistling a different tune by spring semester – but hopefully not.
